The firm said it has been registered in Ontario as a restricted dealer under the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), an umbrella organization of Canada's provincial and territorial securities regulators. The crypto exchange said that this authorization means the company now meets the Canadian regulators' strict requirements for crypto assets dealings and can operate legally in the country. The policy changes led Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange by trading volumes, to quit its activity in Canada, saying it was "no longer tenable" to operate there. Rival crypto exchange Kraken said last year that it had filed a pre-registration undertaking (PRU) with the Ontario Securities Commission, effectively starting the process to become a registered dealer in Canada. The company says it is the first international crypto exchange to receive restricted dealer registration in Canada.

COP28’s big challenge: green cash for poor states

Rather than drawing attention to this paucity of ambition, al-Jaber wants states to commit to trebling global capacity of renewable energy by 2030. Progress in China and the West is largely a function of cash: these regions accounted for 84% of the $1.3 trillion committed to global climate finance in 2022. They calculate that by 2030, developing countries need to invest around $2.4 trillion a year in order to decarbonise their economies. The problem is that the developed world has consistently missed targets to channel climate cash to less developed counterparts. In September al-Jaber announced a $4.5 billion scheme to deploy UAE state cash and private sector resources to help Africa decarbonise.

Aug 31 (Reuters) - Former interim CEO of insurer Prudential (PRU.L) is the leading contender to take the top job at British asset manager St James's Place (SJP.L), succeeding current chief Andrew Croft, Sky news reported on Thursday. Mark FitzPatrick, interim CEO at the Asia-focused insurer for a period last year, has emerged as the SJP board's preferred successor to company veteran Croft, according to the report. Sky news had in May reported Croft's plan to step down from the role he took over in 2018. St James's Place in July reported a fall in its half-year profit but attracted 3.4 billion pounds ($4.31 billion) of net inflows in what the company called a "challenging period" for UK investors. SINGAPORE, June 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - It’s one thing to be targeted by pushy activists looking for a quick return. It’s perhaps more embarrassing to receive the wholesale disapproval of American pension funds who are long-term stewards of capital. That’s the position the board of $200 billion carmaker Toyota (7203.T) finds itself in. The pair also favoured a resolution brought by Danish and Dutch pension funds urging Toyota to improve disclosure of its lobbying on climate change. Toyota insists its board adheres to the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s independence standards.

That’s unlikely to be enough to counter President Tayyip Erdogan’s long-held penchant for economic mismanagement. Simsek, who was finance minister and deputy prime minister between 2009 and 2018, would have a nearly impossible task even in normal conditions. He has to tame inflation that is running at 39.6%, bolster a currency hovering near a record low against the U.S. dollar, and restore Turkey’s credibility with international investors. But that would further weaken the lira and do little to tame inflation. Simsek needs more than investors’ respect to right Turkey’s listing ship.

Knocked-down EQT pet buyout will get over the line

Private equity firm EQT (EQTAB.ST) on Friday announced a new deal that values the Cheshire-based company at 4.9 billion pounds ($6.1 billion) including debt. The offer took a 5% bite out of the original bid from April, mainly because Dechra subsequently released a poor trading update. Shares in the target, led by company veteran Ian Page, shot up on Friday but are 6% below the EQT takeout price. For starters, board directors have backed the deal and committed to tender their, admittedly small, slither of shares. Breakingviews calculated in April that the buyer would earn a so-so 17% gross return at the original price, even using very generous growth assumptions.
